Cate girls’ tennis had its best match of the season last Saturday, crushing Laguna Blanca by a final score of 16-2.
Laguna looked to get an edge by stacking their usual #1 and #2 singles players into the doubles lineup, but the plan backfired, with doubles combos Jean Shen/Eva Herman and Summer Christensen/Kate Dehlendorf both beating the Laguna stack. Victoria Herman and Pharibe Pope added a win against the normal #1 doubles from Laguna as Cate came away with seven wins in doubles.
In singles play, the deadly duo of Julia Gan and McKenna Madden failed to drop a single game en-route to three wins each. Starting at #3 singles, Sally Shin also won two 6-0 sets before substitute Cecelia Sanborn filled in for a 7-5 victory against the Laguna #1 player.
The match was well-attended by parents and students, with sometimes as many as 30 people looking on as Cate evened it’s season record at 5-5 (4-0 in Condor League play).
Cate plays next at the Dunn school this Wednesday.
