Cate Finishes Third Consecutive Unbeaten TVL Season

IMG_4281Cate girls’ tennis has now won 27 consecutive league matches, going 10-0 this season to earn a third consecutive Tri-Valley League Title.

Playing against Malibu High School in the final match of the regular season, Cate moved to 13-1 overall with a 16-2 victory over the Sharks.

The win was spearheaded by a 9-0 sweep of singles play. Grace Fuss finished the Tri-Valley League season a perfect 23-0, while senior captain Jackie Cai added two wins to finish 20-2 in league singles play. Piper Brooks substituted for Jackie in the third round, picking up a 6-2 win to end a season full of growth after stepping up from JV.

Carol Cai, who has featured mainly in the Cate doubles lineup in her first two seasons, went 3-0, including a win over Tri-Valley League #4 seed Zoe Nathan.

In doubles, Cate got off to a quick start, winning the first round 6-0, 6-1, 6-0. In the end, Cate made several substitutions but managed to secure seven sets.

Sarah Polowczak and Janice Ng finished 3-0, pushing Polowczak’s unbeaten streak in league doubles play to 48-0 over the last two seasons. Ng, a senior captain who began her Cate tennis career as a JV player, finished 23-3 on the season in league doubles play.

Cate is next in action at Pepperdine University for TVL Individuals tomorrow and will take on CIF’s D1 playoffs for the first time next Wednesday, November 1st. Over the last four seasons, the team has progressed from a strong D4 team to one of the top 30 teams in Southern California.
