Cate Girls’ Tennis picked up two more convincing wins in this week’s matches against league opponents and move to 5-0 on the season.
On Tuesday, La Reina came to Cate Mesa with two strong singles players (Sophia Aulicino, Tiara Nourishad), who took 5-of-6 sets, but failed to pick up a solitary set in doubles play. Grace Fuss won twice in singles and Jackie Cai added another set to make a 12-6 victory for the Rams.
Thursday saw another dominant doubles performance from Cate, this time against Tri-Valley newcomer Foothill Tech. Cate doubles tallied eight sets won, thanks to sweeps from Summer Christensen/Sarah Polowczak and Carol Cai/Katherine Grossman. Eva Herman and Janice Ng came tantalizingly close to completing the doubles sweep as well, before falling in a tight tie-breaker against Foothill Tech’s #1 doubles team.
In singles, Grace Fuss and Jackie Cai each recorded a trio of 6-0 victories, putting the final match score at 14-4.
Next week, Cate will complete the first round of Tri-Valley League play with an away match at Carpinteria High, a team that has already lost matches against both opponents Cate beat this week.
In the meantime, we will focus on building our fitness level in the gym with Coach Erik’s EXOS workouts (photo credit to Erik!), as well as seeking a higher level of play on-court.
