Despite missing eight varsity players (due to very important birthdays and scuba diving adventures), Cate girls’ tennis had no trouble dispatching the Dunn Earwigs on the Cate Mesa. The final score was 12-6.
Singles led the way with clean sweeps from sophomores McKenna Madden (6-1, 6-0, 6-1) and Julia Gan (6-0, 6-0, 6-0) and senior Sally Shin added two wins (6-2, 6-4, 1-6).
In doubles, the new pairing of freshman Cecelia Sanborn and J.V. player Leanna Schmidt won two sets in fine fashion before dropping a close third round match against the Dunn #1’s. The freshman/senior pairing of Jean Shen and Eva Herman also added two wins.
Cate girls’ tennis now owns a 3-5 record (2-0 in league) and will next be in action this coming Wednesday at home against league rival Thacher.
